The brief
A dark crossing on the park walk
The footbridge sits on the footpath that loops around the caravan park at Moama Waters, around 25 to 30 metres of walkway over the water. There was no lighting on it at all, so after dark it was one of the darkest spots in the park.
Guests use that path to get back to their cabin, caravan or tent. The job was to light the bridge and its approaches so they could find their way safely at night.
Why solar
Lit up without digging up the park

- A 240V job means ripping up ground for cabling. Solar leaves the park's paths, lawns and gardens exactly as they were.
- Quiet for guests
- No excavators or trenchers running all day. Guests can enjoy their stay while the work goes on around them.
- No live services at risk
- With no digging, there is no chance of hitting underground power, water or sewer lines.
- Lower cost
- No trenching, no machinery on site and no electrician to connect to mains, so the install costs a lot less.

The install
Bolted into the bridge steel
We installed 10 solar bollards across the footbridge, bolted to the C-section brackets that extend from either side of the bridge. A solar street light at each end lights the footpath leading onto the bridge, so the whole crossing is lit from path to path.
The tricky part was pre-drilling the bridge's steel I-beams, which are 10 to 12 mm thick. It is hard going on drills and bits, but it gives every bollard a solid fixing into the structure.
Barricades and safety cones kept the work area clearly marked, so guests always knew where work was under way.
The lights were sourced from Star8 Green.

A crossing guests can see
What was the darkest stretch of the park walk is now lit every night, from the footpath at one end, across the bridge, to the other. The lights have performed fantastically since the install, and they are backed by a warranty of 12 months or more.
No trenches, no disruption to guests and nothing left behind but a finished, lit walkway.
